The Swan for Life Cancer Foundation was established to go beyond the clinical needs of the patient.
Founder Farid Fata, M.D., F.A.C.P., is a medical oncologist. After many years of working with cancer patients, he realized that medicine was only one piece of the oncology puzzle. He observed that when other resources such as education, community support, a plan of action and integrative medicine options were available, patients found it easier to face the challenges that come with any cancer.
The Swan for Life Cancer Foundation strives to ensure that every patient has access to an optimal oncology experience.
Its name originates from an experience Dr. Fata observed while treating a patient with ovarian cancer. Her husband was fully committed to supporting his wife during her cancer journey. The swan symbolized their relationship; graceful, beautiful, dignified and most importantly, committed partners for life. Their relationship was the inspiration behind The Swan for Life Cancer Foundation. Because of her husband’s unwavering support, the patient was able to maintain a positive attitude, dignity and strength throughout her journey with cancer.
